  1. Handey Randy says:

    Black & Decker (the corporation) is distinct from “Black & Decker” the brand; the latter is used by more than one corporation. In particular, “Black & Decker”-branded household products in the Americas (but outside of Brazil) are marketed by a division of Applica, a Florida-based corporation much smaller than Black & Decker Corporation.
    The Black & Decker Corporation markets its name under various brands:
    * DeWalt Power Tools
    * Porter Cable
    * Delta Machinery
    * Kwikset
    * Baldwin
    * Weiser Lock
    * Price Pfister
    * Emhart Teknologies
    * Oldham Blades
    * Black and Decker Firestorm

  2. Black & Decker makes its own drills. Porter Cable was recently purchased by Black & Decker, however Porter Cable was allowed to remain as is. Porter Cable continues to manufacture their own products as of this date.
    Black & Decker Purchased the DeWalt Brand several years ago. It is now targeted toward the high end DIY customers and the professional Tradesman. Black & Decker is targeted for the average DIY customer.
    Porter Cable has discontinued some tools, probably because they overlap the DeWalt line somewhat. Such as grinders.
